Photodeposition of Pt, Ag and Au was performed on an anodically biassed TiO2 electrode in a solution containing “current-doubling” alcohols. Indirect reduction of the metal ions by the radical intermediates produced from the alcohol is, thus, suggested to participate in the photocatalytic preparation of metal-loaded TiO2 powders.
