In this study.we have examined the antibody-dependent cytotoxicity (ADCC) reactions mediated by human peripheral blood monocytes (MO).polymorphonuclear cells (PMN).and pulmonary alveolar macrophages (AM) against a chicken erythrocyte target system with and without sensitization by a rabbit anti-chicken erythrocyte lgG antibody. In this system.all three effector cells actively mediated ADCC.AMs were most effective (32% lysis).followed by PMNs (12%) and MOs (6%) at a target:effector (T:E) ratio of 10:1 .The oxygen dependence of the ADCC reaction was also studied.Under hypoxic conditions.cytotoxicity mediated by all three effector cells was reduced.but still present (1O%-50% of controls). As the T:E ratio increased in these experiments.
