The hepta‐ octa‐ and nonanucleotides in a complete pancreatic ribonuclease digest of μ2 phage RNA were fractionated according to nucleotide composition. Together with the deca‐ and undecanucleotides this gave 19 separated components each with a unique nucleotide composition. Some are mixtures of sequence isomers, others may be homogeneous. The fractionation depended quantitatively on the net charge on the oligonucleotide between charge −1 and −4 at pH 2.7 in 7 M urea.
