Infrared spectra of gaseous ClB (OCH3)2 and Cl2BOCH3 in the 2 to 15 μ range are reported, and the observed bands are assigned to the fundamental vibrations of the molecules. The single B–Cl vibration was found to have widely varying frequencies and thus cannot be described by the term ``characteristic.'' Two strong bands, reported by previous investigators at 1376 and 1395 cm—1 in the infrared spectrum of BCl3 have been found to be due to an impurity. By use of a correlation scheme assignments for some skeletal stretching vibrations in FB(OCH3)2 are proposed.
