Sandwich-type cells have been fabricated using very thin (5μm) perylene single crystals, obtained by slicing the crystal, embedded in the epoxy resin, using a microtome. Orange electroluminescence (EL) was reproducibly observed. An EL intensity of 3.3mWcm−2 and a current quantum efficiency of 4% were obtained. The present device has the configuration of a Fabry-Pérot resonator and is suitable for low-temperature operation.
