A comparative calorimetry study has been made on three types of single phase C₆₀ polymers, i.e., dimers, one-, and two-dimensional polymers. These polymers revert to monomers with an endothermic reaction upon heating to 300^∘C, indicating that the monomer form is the least stable phase. By estimating the endothermic heat, it was found that the polymeric forms become energetically unstable as the number of intermolecular bonds increases, in contradiction to the currently available calculation. The present results suggest that molecular deformation plays a crucial role in the energetics of C₆₀ polymers.
