A one-pot synthesis of ruthenium nanoparticles on magnetic silica is described, which involves in situ generation of magnetic silica (Fe 3 O 4 @ SiO 2 ) and ruthenium nanoparticle immobilization. The transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds occurs in high yield along with excellent selectivity using this catalyst under microwave irradiation conditions.
