On the basis of numerical solutions of the full system of Maxwell's equations in transparent media with saturating self-focusing nonlinearities, we deduce conditions for the formation of ultra-narrow spatial (transversely two-dimensional) solitons - `optical needles'. Numerical simulations support their stability.
