Ionophores which induce alkali and alkaline earth cation selectivity in membrane electrodes have been immobilized on styrene-divinylbenzene copolymers by a covalent bonding. The new resins extract alkali and alkaline earth metals from solutions. The chromatographic behavior of these electrically neutral resins is demonstrated.
