Using a radioimmunoassay to measure GABA (γ‐aminobutyric acid) transaminase in brain tissue homogenate, we have determined the turnover number of the enzyme in various regions of the rat brain. These numbers are not constant and vary from 3.5 to 30.6 s‐1 according to the regions studied, the highest numbers being found in regions rich in white matter. The significance of these results is discussed.
