The nonlinear absorption of quantum‐confined CuCl and CdSxSe1−x crystallites imbedded in a glass matrix is investigated by means of laser spectroscopy. For CuCl in which the quantum confinement of excitons takes place a considerable light‐induced blue shift of excitonic bands is observed which is attributed to the interaction of exciton‐like excitations under quantum confinement. A decrease of the saturation intensity with decreasing size of the crystallites is detected for CuCl‐doped glasses. In CdSxSe1−x‐doped glasses where quantum confinement of free carriers predominates no distinct correlation between the crystal size and the saturation intensity is observed.
