The kinetics and mechanism of elementary chemical reactions in solid polymers are reviewed. The activation energies and pre‐exponential factors of propagation and recombination rate constants are analyzed. The mechanism of hydroperoxide decomposition and chain branching are critically considered and the influence of oxygen on the chain branching probability is discussed. Some other problems of solid polymer oxidation are also discussed.
