Epoxy‐fatty acids, such as epoxyeicosatrienoic acids or EETs, are natural chemical mediators that have many physiological roles. For example, the EETs act at the vascular, renal and cardiac level to regulate blood pressure and also display anti‐inflammatory properties. The soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) metabolized these compounds to less biologically active diols. Using chemical inhibitors developed in our laboratory, we showed in animal models that sEH inhibition reduced blood pressure, organ damages and inflammation and is associated with a relative increase of epoxy fatty acids levels. This suggests sEH as a therapeutic target for hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases, but also for acute and chronic inflammatory diseases.
