The title compound, an apionucleoside, has been synthesized and is shown by NMR. to exist mainly in the conformation E3′. The reasons why this branched‐chain nucleoside is not a substrate for adenosine deaminase are discussed. The compound inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus in synthetic liquid media.
