Upper limb bone metastases are uncommon relative to other sites of skeletal metastasis but present special difficulties and challenges as a result of their impact on patient function. Aims of treatment are the reduction of pain and maintenance or restoration of function. Surgical treatment should aim at prophylactic fixation of lesions or stable one-time fixation of fractures. As with all metastatic lesions, careful assessment and planning is necessary to ensure that the appropriate treatment is provided to the patient and that morbidity is minimized.
