Polyethylene molecular weights were determined by light‐scattering measurements in 1‐chloronapthalene and 1,2,3,4‐tetrahydronaphthalene at 125°C. Both high density and low density polyethylene fractions were used. The results show that at 125°C. polyethylene molecules do not associate in 1‐chloronaphthalene. The disagreement of molecular weights of polyethylene determined in the two solvents is traced to the uncertainty of refractive index increment of polyethylene in 1,2,3,4‐tetrahydronaphthalene and to possible oxidation of the polymer in 1‐chloronaphthalene.
