Summary— The aetiology of detrusor instability and its relationship to subjective symptomatic cure is discussed. Out‐patient bladder training without the use of drug therapy in 90 patients with frequency/urgency and/or urge incontinence is illustrated and the results are analysed. In resistant cases the value of periodic provocative cystometry is emphasised.
