A cubane-like tetrameric structure with LiC bonds and two stereogenic centers per monomeric unit results from lithiation of Ph2P(O)CH2C(H)MeEt in toluene. Retention of the LiC bonds on dissolution in [D8]THF is confirmed by 13C NMR spectroscopy. The central framework of this lithiated phosphane oxide is shown on the right.
