The dielectronic recombination rates for sodium ions have been calculated, taking into account all autoionization processes and radiatively stabilizing transitions which involve a single-electron electric-dipole transition from the valence shell of the recombining ion. Utilizing the corona ionization-recombination equilibrium model, the relative abundances of the various ionization states have been calculated and employed to demonstrate the dominance of dielectronic recombination over the direct radiative recombination process. The power radiated by an optically thin low-density plasma has been evaluated, taking into account resonance line emission, direct recombination radiation, dielectronic recombination radiation, and electron-ion bremsstrahlung.
