The amount of pollen of Cryptomeria japonica (CJ), which is known to induce allergic reactions in the eyes and nose, was measured by the use of a photoacoustic (PA) microscope. It was shown that the CJ pollen up to several tens of particles could be measured and that the calibration curve for PA signal versus pollen amount with the correlation coefficient of 0.94 was obtained.
