Expert panel examines human variability strategies across professional affinity groups, suggesting organizational allyship enhances equity and community inclusion.
The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) is dedicated to recognizing human variability and understanding how it shapes interactions between people and systems. Building on previous panels, this discussion panel examines human variability through the lens of HFES Affinity Groups and their role in fostering an inclusive and collaborative professional community. The panel will feature current and former Council of Affinity Groups (COAG) chairs, representatives from each HFES Affinity Group, and a member of the HFES Executive Council. Together, they will discuss current initiatives, successes, challenges, and future opportunities for Affinity Groups within HFES. The panel will also provide practical strategies for attendees to become effective allies and better support Affinity Groups. By extending the concept of human variability beyond technology design to the cultivation of professional communities, this panel aims to promote a more welcoming, equitable, and supportive HFES that embraces the diverse experiences and perspectives of its members.
