Case report reveals successful detection of persistent vitelline vein thrombosis in a fetus, highlighting the role of spatiotemporal image correlation and conservative monitoring.
Persistent vitelline vein (PVV) is a rare malformation resulting from abnormal embryonic development of the portal venous system. It is easily confused with umbilical vein varix and carries a risk of severe complications such as postnatal thrombosis, underscoring the importance of accurate prenatal diagnosis. We report a rare case of PVV with thrombosis that was prenatally diagnosed and postnatally confirmed, with a favorable outcome achieved through close monitoring. The integration of prenatal ultrasound with spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC) provided complementary visualization of the vascular anatomy and spatial relationships, thereby enhancing diagnostic confidence. This case adds to the limited literature on postnatal outcomes of PVV with thrombosis and highlights the value of conservative management in selected asymptomatic neonates.
