FUEL properties essential to the proper operation of a diesel engine were studied for several ethanol-diesel fuel blends. A blend of 10 percent ethanol and 90 percent No. 2 diesel exceeded ASTM minimum specifications and was given the name diesohol. In engine tests, diesohol gave lower efficiency than No. 2 diesel fuel but also reduced exhaust smoke.
