Thermoluminescence from freshly cleaved TLD-100 exposed to monoenergetic electrons from 3 to 30 keV behaves as if the electrons induce the luminescence over an effective range which follows R (μm) =1.62×10−2E1.73. Between 0.1 and 1 keV the effective range is essentially constant at 0.3 μm. The glow curves for these crystals sampled with electrons at 1 keV and below are very similar to TSEE curves reported by others, provided similar annealings have been performed. Annealing in air alters these curves from that of the bulk response presumably because water vapor diffuses inward at the surface. We believe this diffusion is what has caused past disagreement in curve shape between TSEE and bulk thermoluminescence curves.
