The opportunity of examining a number of species allied to the well-known Cephaloehordate Amphioxus lanceolatus was afforded to me by Professor Lankester, who had for some time collected material for the purpose of revising the genus, and suggested that I should go over the specimens in his possession, and prepare a series of drawings showing the chief characteristics of the species. The drawings have been executed by Mr. Bayzand from rough ones prepared by me.1
