DEFINE I'OSSIBLE MECHANISMSI oC the spreading of cancer, cytological study of operative wound washings of 98 patients was made following definitive surgery for carcinoma of the cervix.In addition, the operative wounds of a number of these patients were treated with drugs in an attempt to influence the incidence of local regrowth of cancer.This report is concerned with the relationship between positive wound washings, stage of disease, operative findings, wound therapy given, and follow-up study of the patient in order to define the significance of a contaminated wound and the possible value of 1oc;rl wound chemotherapy.
