Abstract 2,4,6‐Tricarbomethoxyheptane has been separated into isotactic, heterotactic, and syndiotactic isomers. These were then converted into corresponding steric isomers of 2,4,6‐tricarboxyheptane. Structural assignments were made on the basis of NMR spectra, physical, and chemical properties. Comparison of the IR spectra of the model compounds with the free‐radical polymer from methyl acrylate lead to the conclusion that the polymer is predominately isotactic. The esters are epimerized in alkaline media, but the acids are quite stable.
