The sponge Spongia officinalis from La Caleta, Cádiz, Spain, contains the new C-21 furanoterpenes furospongin-5 ( 1 ) and cyclofurospongin-2 ( 2 ) and the new furanosesterterpene demethylfurospongin-4 ( 3 ), in addition to the known terpenoids 4 − 11 . The structures of compounds 1 − 3 were elucidated by interpretation of spectral data and chemical interconversions. Furospongin-5 ( 1 ) was weakly cytotoxic against the P-388 cell line (ED 50 = 5 μg/mL).
