The selective cleavage of the Mn(μ-CO)2Co bridging fragment in complex (1) is the first one of its kind. With L = PMe3 or C2Ph2 the Mn compound MeC5H4Mn(CO)3 is obtained in either case, together with the Co compound C5H5Co(PMe3)2 or C5H5Co(PMe3)(C2Ph2).
