We report the first case of pancreatitis caused by metronidazole; there was recurrence on rechallenge.A 29-year-old black woman was first seen on 30 January 1984 with right upper quadrant abdominal and back pain of 3 days' duration. The patient had had a normal spontaneous vaginal delivery on 26 December 1983. Because of postpartum vaginal discharge and spotting, she had been started on metronidazole on 26 January 1984.
