Considerations are given for the plane and axially symmetric flows of an inviscid flow which are dependent on the magnetic Reynolds number R/sub M/ and the ratio of a representative magnetic pressure to the dynamic pressure of the free stream, beta . Assuming both beta and R/sub M/ to be small, the equations of motion are developed for a weak applied magnetic field. The equations are then developed for a very strong magnetic field for the case where beta is so large that beta R/sub M/ is large, even through R/sub M/ is assumed to be small. The drag coefficient, which is proportional to ( beta R/sub M//sup 1/>s, is given for a circular cylinder. (B.O.G.)
