The ν3 fundamental band of CO2+ has been observed with infrared diode laser spectroscopy, while modulating a hollow cathode discharge in CO2 by a magnetic field. The band origin has been determined to be 1423.0821(8) cm−1. This anomalously low value has been explained in terms of a vibronic interaction between X̃ 2Πg and à 2Πu through the ν3 vibration, as in the case of BO2.
