Seven strains of flagellated marine cocci have been subjected to taxonomic analysis. It is suggested that they be included in the genus Planococcus Migula, 1894. A revised description of the genus Planococcus is proposed. The strain Planococcus citreus CCM 316 (Micrococcus aquivivus ATCC 14404) is proposed as the neotype culture.
