The effect of annealing of the cathodoluminescence (CL) from deformed MgO single crystals has been investigated. Annealing at 1200 °C for a short time changes the bright slip bands into dark bands and also produces CL rosettes in indented crystals. The behaviour is attributed to annihilation and diffusion of point defects responsible for the CL emission.
