A restricted three-dimensional model of the solar wind is studied by a perturbation technique with spherically symmetric boundary conditions. The results give the velocities and fields at 1 AU with an internal accuracy of about 1% and can be used to examine the accuracy and applicability of the results of previous calculations. Although only a polytropic gas is specifically treated, a simple consequence of the mathematics allows the azimuthal velocity to be calculated with great accuracy by using a conductive heat equation.
