Pressure/volume curves were determined for the bulbus arteriosus and ventral aorta. The curves show a high degree of compliance over the 40 to 60 cm H2O pressure range, a range that is similar to ventral aortic blood pressures in trout. Hypoxic, adrenergic and cholinergic treatments all altered the shape of the pressure/volume curves. Arterial blood flow is therefore depulsed in vivo and the extent of depulsation may be regulated.
