Abstract 2‐Isopropyl‐8‐quinolinol was prepared by alkylation of 8‐methoxyquinoline followed by demethylation. The 7‐isopropyl‐8‐quinolinol was prepared in three steps from o‐isopropylphenol. The reaction of 5‐chloromethyl‐8‐quinolinol hydrochloride with alcohols, amines, ethylene glycols and ether‐alcohols gave the corresponding 5‐substituted derivatives of 8‐quinolinol.
