The properties of two novel ionomers, the sodium salts of styrene‐4‐hydroxystyrene and styrene‐4‐hydroxymethylstyrene, obtained from torsion pendulum experiments are compared with those of other styrene ionomers. The glass transition temperature of the matrix, the size of the ionic aggregates, and the strengths of the ionic interactions within these large aggregates were related to the type and position of the ionic group. Attempts were made to explain these results.
