A pilot study of a technique for the in-vivo measurement of wall tension In an individual vein is described. From this measurement stress ratios can be calculated. The technique involves pressure measurements and venography through the same needle. It is concluded that the technique Is sufficiently accurate for most purposes. In the subject studied, the stress ratios in the ground-sitting, chair-sitting, standing and exercising postures were approximately 1, 2.5, 3 and 2 respectively.
