Kangaroo rats (family Heteromyidae) are mainly seed eaters. Diet-choice experiments were performed to determine the effect of water content on seed selection by Dipodomys merriami. Kangaroo rats selected the most moist seeds available, and responded to exceedingly small differences in water content of seeds.
