Isolated rat hepatocytes in suspension were used to study the effects of insulin and glucagon on [ 3 H]H 2 O incorporation into glycerolipids. Insulin was found to stimulate the incorporation of 3 H into the acyl groups of triacylglycerols, phosphatidylcholines and phosphatidylethanolamines. The incorporation of 3 H from [ 3 H]H 2 O into the glycerol backbone of triacylglycerols is also enhanced by insulin. Glucagon has an inhibitory effect on all these parameters.
