Optical probe beam deflection has been demonstrated to provide simultaneous, in situ observation of concentration and thermal gradients at the electrode‐electrolyte interface, during cyclic voltammetry experiments on copper in alkaline electrolyte. The concentration gradient deflection signal closely resembles the electrochemical current‐potential curve. The thermal gradient deflection signal is similar to that obtained using photoacoustic spectroscopy, and is correlated with the formation and disappearance of oxide films on the copper electrode.
