Key result
Rituximab linked to clinical improvement in 5 patients with CD20+ inflammatory DCM.
Why the study?
Limited information exists on the role of B-cell-dependent mechanisms in the progression of inflammatory dilated cardiomyopathy, and CD20+ B-lymphocytes might contribute to myocardial damage.
Does rituximab improve cardiac function in patients with CD20+ B-lymphocyte-associated inflammatory dilated cardiomyopathy?

Does rituximab improve cardiac function in patients with CD20+ B-lymphocyte-associated inflammatory dilated cardiomyopathy?
Rituximab may improve the clinical course in a subset of patients with inflammatory dilated cardiomyopathy characterized by CD20+ B-lymphocyte persistence.

May prompt genetic evaluation in refractory inflammatory DCM; leaves open immunosuppression benefit in Danon disease overlap.
Tschöpe et al. (2019) conducted a case report in CD20+ B-lymphocyte-associated inflammatory dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMi) (n=6). Rituximab was evaluated on Clinical improvement of cardiac function. In a case series of six patients with CD20+ B-lymphocyte-associated inflammatory dilated cardiomyopathy, five patients improved clinically several weeks after rituximab infusion.
