This has heretofore been the fate of Raynaud's disease and scleroderma. From an analysis of clinical material,5we concluded that the vasospasm of minute vessels which characterizes Raynaud's disease is the somatic manifestation of a chronic psychologic derangement. This viewpoint has since found support.3, 9At that time evidence was available that scleroderma had the same origin.
