Because of the paucity of pertinent reports in the recent literature, it is difficult to establish this view objectively. The purpose of this paper is primarily to outline the antibiotic therapy of bacterial arthritis and to report the observations made in 77 cases encountered at the Mayo Clinic during the 19-year period, 1939 through 1957.
