Dependence of the initial optical loss in copper-coated silica–silica multimode optical fibers on the external fiber diameter and the optical cladding thickness is investigated. The results allow a conclusion that the best parameters in the long-wavelength spectrum region will be shown by copper-coated silica–silica multimode optical fibers with the diameter larger than 160 µm and the ratio of the optical cladding thickness to the working radiation wavelength larger than 6.
