SUMMARY The antibody responses of turkeys to Influenza A/Turk/Wis/66 virus were measured by the HI test. Response varied considerably with the amount of virus received and the environmental conditions. High levels of antibody, 80 or greater (expressed as the reciprocal), were usually transient. Most responses were in the range of 10-40. Antibody usually persisted for up to seven months, with the levels rising if turkeys were subjected to stress by chilling. These data suggested that virus persisted in some turkeys for long periods and could be released to immune competent cells upon cold stress. It was concluded that HI titers of 10 or greater signify infection, past or present. Such information could be useful for the conduct of serological surveys.
