Concerning the a/Jplication of oxygen concentration cells with the electrolyte, ZrO,• CaO, which /novides a pure anion conduction due to the migration of oxygen difects, to the basic research works of /nocess metallurgy, the following four eX/Jerimental works have been introduced in this report:( I ) The standard free energies of formation of FeO, F e,O" SnO, PbO, Cu,O, CuO and Ta,05 have been measured at 500 ° to 1,300°C and expressed by the functions of temperature with the com/Jarison with the data in literatures ll .(2 ) The oxygen /nessure in liquid PbO-SiO, solution has been measured at 800°, 900 °, 1,000° and 1, JOO °C, being equilibrated with liquid lead. The chemical activities of PbO and SiO" and the other thermodynamical/no/Jerties cif PbO-SiO, solution have been obtained').(3 ) K. Coto and C. R. St. Pierre') have measured the chemical activi!>, of tin in liquid Pb-Sn binary solution at 700 °, 800 °, and 900°e.The thermodynamical properties of Pb-Sn alloys were also calculated.(4 ) Also, K. Coto and C. R. St. Pierre' ) have develo/Jed an oxygen gauge to measure the /Jartial /Jressure of oxygen in the high tem/Jerature gases in the rangeofPo, = 10-1 _10-'0 atm .and 500 0 -i,300°C.The self-consistent and reproducible EMF against the gas compositions cif CO-CO, or Ar-O, gas mixtures have been obtained with the several reference electrodes. The reversibili!>, of the EMF against the changes cif the atmos/Jhere, temperature and the externally a/J/Jlied potential, was carifully examined.i n addition, the other possibilities for a/Jplying oxygen concentration cells to the basic study of /Jrocess metallurgy have been suggested and industrial application has also been discussed.
