As of June 24, 2025, a total of 1227 confirmed measles cases were reported across the United States—a concerning development given that the country achieved measles elimination in 2000.1 This resurgence of a vaccine-preventable illness has renewed attention to clinical management strategies, including vitamin A supplementation. While U.S. public health authorities—including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID)— recommend routine vitamin A supplementation for all children with measles, we present evidence challenging this universal approach.
