To simulate chemokine tracks presented by narrow stromal networks inside lymph nodes, novel biochips micropatterned with long chemokine stripes are fabricated. Chemokine-coated regions induce T-cell polarization and motility whereas T-cells settling on chemokine-free biochips remain round and static. Chemokine-stimulated T-cell motility is thus directed along patterned stripes (see time-lapse images).
